Vietnam reopen visa application (e-visa & visa on arrival) for citizens of Hungary starting from March 15, 2022

Updated: 11:26 AM - 23 Nov,2024

The Novel Coronavirus, also known as Covid 19, has affected our lives in so many ways. Several countries around the world have closed their borders and this has badly affected the travel and tourism industry. Vietnam, for their part, has temporarily halted the issuance of visas in order to prevent the entry of foreign visitors. The country has reported hundreds of confirmed coronavirus cases and most of these are due to foreign transmissions.

Slowly, the world is trying to go back to normal now. Vietnam has once again opened its visa issuance and urge foreign visitors to come and help boost the country’s tourism industry.

If you are from Hungary and you choose Vietnam as your next holiday destination, it’s time to apply for your visa. As a citizen of Hungary, you’re among those nationalities that are required to have a visa before you can enter the country. There are two types of visa that you are eligible to apply. One is the e-visa and the other is the visa on arrival.

What Is Vietnam E-Visa?

Also called the electronic visa, the e-visa is the online version of the standard visa to Vietnam. This type of visa can only be applied online, which is why it’s very convenient for all tourists. By offering this type of visa, the Vietnam government is hoping to invite more foreign visitors and boost its tourism economy, especially after closing its borders recently. Since you can just apply for the visa online, you don’t need to go to an embassy for this visa.

This visa is good for single entry. Holders of this visa can stay in the country for up to 30 days. There may be an option to extend it but you’ll have to coordinate with an accredited agency for this. This visa can be used at various points of entry in Vietnam, from airports to seaports and land borders.

What is Vietnam Visa on Arrival?

Hungarian citizens who wanted to stay in Vietnam for longer than 30 days should go for the visa on arrival. This visa will let you apply for a multiple-entry visa with an option to stay up to 60 days.

Although the visa on arrival is the kind of visa that you can get only when you arrive, you’ll need to register for this visa in advance. You have to register online and once your request is received, they will email you a pre-approval letter. This letter is required for you to be given a visa once you arrive. Aside from the letter, you’ll also be asked to submit an application form, passport-sized photo, and, of course, your passport. There is also a stamping fee that you need to pay at the airport for $25. You can pay in US Dollar or Vietnam Dong currency.

But take note that the Visa on Arrival can only be obtained at the airport. Therefore, it’s not applicable to those who are on a cruise and will enter through Vietnam’s seaports. Travelers who plan on entering by land travel cannot claim this visa at the land border.

What’s The Best Vietnam Visa for Citizens of Hungary?

Hungarian visitors can use either the e-visa or visa on arrival for their trip to Vietnam. Both are easy to apply since you can just fill out the application form online. But which of them should you choose?

This will mainly depend on how many days you intend to stay in Vietnam and how you plan to enter the country. For instance, if you are only going to be there for 30 days, the e-visa should be fine. It’s also a great visa to use for those who are entering through the land border or seaport since this type of visa can be used in all forms of entry into the country.

However, for those who wanted to stay in Vietnam for more than 30 days and would like to enter multiple times, the Visa on Arrival is the best visa to get. However, make sure you are flying into the country since you can only get this visa at the airports.

When Should You Apply for your Visa?

Now that Vietnam has just resumed its visa issuance after suspending it temporarily, the Vietnam government is expecting a surge of visa applications anytime soon. So if you are traveling to Vietnam anytime next month, you better send in your visa application now. The Vietnam Immigration has requested foreign visitors to apply for their visa at least two weeks ahead of their trip. Also, for Hungarian travelers who need to be in the country in the next few days, you can pay more for the rush processing of your visa.
