Vietnam reopen visa application (e-visa & visa on arrival) for citizens of Austria starting from March 15, 2022

Updated: 10:43 AM - 23 Nov,2024

Because of the spread of Covid 19, countries around the world, including Vietnam, have imposed travel restrictions. Aside from closing borders, Vietnam has also decided to cancel the issuance of visas. This is especially applicable to citizens of countries who have the most number of confirmed Covid 19 cases, such as Austria. Around the middle of March, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Austria has reached more than 1,000. To protect the country and stop virus transmission, Vietnam has decided to temporarily stop visa issuance.

Thankfully, the visa issuance suspension has now been lifted. Thus, Austrian citizens who plan on vacationing to Vietnam can now apply for a visa. Whether you’re applying for an e-visa or a visa on arrival, you should now start sending in your visa application.

Do Austrian Citizens Need a Visa to Vietnam?

Yes, Austrian citizens are among those nationalities that require a visa to enter Vietnam. They were not part of the visa waiver program, unlike other European countries. So regardless of their purpose of visit and the number of days they intend to stay in Vietnam, they must apply for a visa in advance.

Thankfully, applying for a Vietnam visa for Austrian citizens is now so easy. That’s because they are eligible for the e-visa. The e-visa is an electronic visa that the Vietnam Immigration would issue online. Austrian citizens can easily apply for this visa online. Once approved, they can stay in the country for up to 30 days. This visa is acceptable at various ports of entry, including seaports and land borders.

Another type of visa that Austrian citizens can apply is the Visa on Arrival. This is a great option for those who are staying in the country for more than 30 days. With the visa on arrival, you get to choose from a single entry or multiple-entry visas. You can also choose the number of days, whether it’s 30 days or 90 days.

How Can Austrian Citizens Apply for the Vietnam E-visa?

If you believe that the e-visa is the best option to use for your trip to Vietnam, then all you need to do is to go online and apply. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Fill out the online application form with your name, nationality, and other important details.
  2. Upload the required documents, such as the scanned copy of your passport’s bio page. You also need to upload digital photos in the Jpg format. Make sure that the photos were taken recently and in a white background.
  1. Next, pay for the processing fee of your visa. You can pay using your card or PayPal.
  2. Review the details and if you are certain that everything is correct, go ahead and submit your application.
  3. Wait for a few days and you will receive an email regarding your e-visa. If this is approved, follow the instructions on how to download the e-visa. After downloading, print it out and that’s the visa you need to present at Passport Control on your trip to Vietnam.

How Can Austrian Citizens Apply for the Vietnam Visa on Arrival

If you need a multiple-entry visa with a stay of up to 90 days, the Visa on Arrival is the best option for you. But before you can get your visa on arrival, you need to request a pre-approval letter ahead of time. Here’s how to go about getting this type of visa:

  1. First, go online and register. You will be asked to provide your details, such as your complete name, nationality, etc. Review and submit.
  2. When your request is approved, you’ll receive an email in about 3 business days. In the email, you will find the pre-approval letter and a blank application form. Print both and fill out the form.
  3. Bring the documents with you on your trip to Vietnam. When you arrive at the airport, proceed to the visa counter.
  4. Give your passport, pre-approval letter and the filled-out application form. You will then be asked to pay for the stamping fee, which is around $25. They only accept cash either in Vietnamese Dong or USD.
  5. Wait on one side. Once your name is called, the officer will give you back your passport, which should already have the visa sticker on it.

It’s important to note that the visa on arrival is only applicable to travelers who are flying to Vietnam. This visa can only be claimed from the airport so it won’t be suitable for those who are entering via a cruise. The visa is also not applicable to Austrian tourists who are entering through the land border.
